Mama Toucan’s is a locally owned and operated natural food store dedicated to providing access to clean and healthy food to our community each and every day.  We believe that food is fuel and what you put in to your body is what you can expect to get out.

We opened a small space in 2015 out of a desperate need to provide our growing community with a better source of produce and staple food products.  Our criteria was simple, we focused on organic foods, and products that are free of chemicals or artificial ingredients.  The response was overwhelming.

In 6 short months we expanded to our current location at The Village Shopping Center right in the heart of Dominical.  As our customer base grew our product offerings increased.  Now we have more than 5000 Organic and Natural food items in our store covering every major category:  Produce, Dairy, Grains, Protein, Body Care, Healthy Snacks and more.

We didn’t stop there.  We found that many of our customers had some pretty strict food restrictions and were having trouble finding restaurants that catered to their needs.  In 2017, we launched The Deli at Mama Toucan’s in order to provide clean and healthy vegetarian and vegan meals, with a focus on gluten free and dairy free meal options.  The Deli was a hit and we have been introducing new products ever since.

Mama Toucan’s is also committed to giving back to our community.  Since our inception we have created a number of programs to support our community.  Everything from free music lessons for children, soccer camps, and free self-defense training for women and children.  During the Covid Pandemic, we started the Mama Toucan’s Food and Funds Foundation that raised money for families in need from our area.  We raised enough money to deliver food to 25 families in and around Dominical each week for an entire year.  With the help of our foundation we paid rent for people, medical bills, covered utility costs, delivered clothing, toys and housewares as well.  We are so grateful for all the support we have received from our community, and we are dedicated to doing everything we can to make Dominical the best place to live and to visit in all of Costa Rica.

None of this would be possible, however, without the help of our amazing staff.  We are lucky to work with the best and brightest young men and women in all of Costa Rica.  Each member of our team is smart, funny, caring, knowledgeable, dynamic, capable…the list goes on and on.  It has been an honor working with such a wonderful group of people and we look forward to many years to come.
